This is for kind information of all concerned that the Labour and Employment Act of Bhutan came into force w.e.f 20th February, 2007 and the Act extends to the whole of Bhutan. Section 219 of the Act states that “No person shall employ a foreigner unless the employer has an approval of the Chief Labour Administrator to employ a foreigner”.

Please be informed that you will not be able to apply on the Labour Net for renewal of the work permits if it is not applied before 15 days of the term expiry in which case the foreign workers should be repatriated and no considerations shall be made from this Department.

It has come to notice of the Ministry of Labour & Human Resources that some individuals have started operating as Employment Agents and have recruited Bhutanese for employment abroad.

This is to notify all the enterprises in the private and corporate sectors that the Ministry of Labour & Human Resources has released the 14 Regulations under the Labour & Employment Act 2007 on 10^th November 2009 and came into effect on 11^th November 2009 in an effort to strengthen the Labour Administration in the country.

The Ministry of Labour and Human Resources would like to re-invite Proposals from Bhutanese interested to operate as licensed Foreign Workers Recruitment Agents in Samdrupjongkhar.

The Department of Labour would like to inform all the employers of foreign workers that following five Foreign Workers Recruitment Agents have been deregistered with the MoLHR and their license has been cancelled by MoEA:
